Let’s spend a day with Ana Kostioukova

Meet Ana Kostioukova, a polyglot Russian native who grew up in Palo Alto. As Ana continues to build her career in Silicon Valley, she aims to do it sans flip flops and boardshorts. We met Ana at work to find out more about her style, career and what keeps her in San Francisco.

My day…

Starts with theSkimm and New York Times daily briefing. Otherwise, every day is different–that’s what makes it fun.

Things I’ve learnt so far working in the venture world…

It’s not a 9 to 5.

Why people should move to San Francisco…

I grew up in Palo Alto so I am inherently biased. But the weather, the people and the natural beauty of this city are difficult to match, in my opinion.

My everyday style is…

It’s definitely versatile. I have to be professional enough for investors, yet approachable for founders. Also, comfort is key for long days at the office or hectic travel schedules.

Designers I like to wear at work…

Theory blazers, AG Jeans, Joie blouses, Kamila Dmowska dresses, Tod’s, Freda Salvador or Michael Kors for shoes.

Best part of my job …

Everyone I work and interact with is intelligent and passionate about what they do.

Best career advice received…

The harder you work, the luckier you get. Also, never be afraid to ask for something. I think as women, we have a harder time asking for what we need and want, both professionally and personally.

Favorite place to relax in (SF)…

I enjoy food so you will often find me trying a new restaurant or going to some of my longtime favorites (Don Pisto’s, Delarosa, Zuni’sKin Khao, Mission Chinese). I think there’s nothing better than good food, good wine and good company.

My day finishes with…

Conversation over a glass of wine.
